About

The Kennedy Plaza Resilience Coalition defends the interests of bus riders, working to improve service including in Kennedy Plaza.  Since 2021 we have fought efforts to move Rhode Island's main bus hub to an expensive new private facility in a worse location which would waste public funds and damage the bus system.  Bus patrons' needs and voice should matter!

Since Gov. McKee gave RIPTA too little money, many RIPTA bus routes are expected to be cut soon.  We must make sure RIPTA gets full funding! Under McKee's budget cuts, seven RIPTA routes will be eliminated completely (12X,59X,61X,76,80,88,QX). Five routes would lose all weekend service (6,18,29,64,75) including some that would also lose some service on weekdays (6,18,64).  Seven routes would run during a reduced portion of the day (3,4,13,16,23,71,73) including the #23 route which would also lose all Sunday service and the #16 route which would also see various other service reductions.  Seven other routes would also see service reductions (14,21,58,65X,68,87,95X) and only five routes would see more frequent service (51,54,72,92, and the new 70 which serves a portion of what the #76 and #80 routes serve now).  In all, twenty-six of RIPTA's sixty-eight routes would see harmful service impacts.  Call Gov. McKee's office at 401-222-2080 and CALL OTHER POLITICIANS, telling them to fund RIPTA fully and not move the bus hub.

You can also speak at the RIPTA board meeting 1:30pm Thu April 25 which may vote on the service cuts, at 269 Melrose St, Providence.
